All athletes must have their helmet securely fastened and cannot open/close the locking mechanism of the helmet from the time they unrack their bike until they rack it back and let go after the finish of the bike segment.
1. Mandatory Use of Helmet
- All athletes are required to wear a helmet during the cycling segment.
- The helmet must already be fastened before the athlete enters the transition area with the bike (bike check-in).
- The helmet must be:
- of an approved type
- properly positioned on the head
- securely fastened with the chin strap.
2. Helmet Must Remain Fastened
The helmet must remain fastened at all times during:
- movement inside the transition area with the bike
- exit towards the mount line
- the entire cycling segment
- until the bike is returned and racked again in the transition area.
3. Purpose of the Rule
This rule exists to ensure:
- athlete safety
- protection in case of possible falls
- proper and secure helmet fitting before the bike is in motion.
