Race Announcement of Porosea 2018

On June 9th & 10th, the Municipality of Poros, the Saronic Triathlon Club and the company whynot are organizing the multisport race under the name POROSEA 2018 (triathlon, aquathlon, swimming and running races) on the beautiful island of Poros.
The cosmopolitan beauty of Poros, along with the amazing racing routes and the unique sea water, promises an extraordinary athletic weekend, right at the beginning of the summer.

 Welcoming note from the mayor,

It is our goal and objective to carefully and systematically develop annual sports tourism events on our island.  Poros is becoming a sports happening destination, where athletes, families and friends are well respected.  Our cooperation with the Company whynot is the proof that our goals are high.  We will work closely with a company that has extensive experience in national cycling tournaments, triathlon races, running events and multi-day tours.  During the two-day race period, the municipality, its services, the volunteers, the local businesses and the Associations will collaborate with whynot company so that everything will run smoothly, not only in terms of the race itself, but also in the hospitality aspect, the ongoing events and generally all these preparations that will make our visitors experience an unforgettable weekend.

Remarks – Awards

There is no overall division in kid’s races.

In order to have an awarding category, at least three athletes are required; otherwise, the age group class will be incorporated with the next one.The first athletes of the overall divisions cannot be awarded in its age group class as well.

Route Details 

Swim Races

Swimming Kids 300m, (born 2010 and before)

The start will be given at the beach of the Russian Naval Station. The athletes will pass clockwise (right turns) to the next two buoys before finishing at the starting line. Basically, the swim course is  a triangle.


Swimming 1500m, (born 2004 and before)
The start will be given at the beach of the Russian Naval Station. The athletes will pass clockwise (right turn) on the first buoy, passing Daskalio Island on their right and a right turn on the second buoy, before finishing at the starting line. Basically, the swim course is a triangle.


Swimming 3000m, (born 2002 and before)

The start will be given at the beach of the Russian Naval Station. The athletes will pass clockwise (right turn) on the first buoy, passing Daskalio Island on their right and a right turn on the second buoy, and swim to the starting line. Then, they will exit the water, walk or run clockwise over the race timing carpet, and then re-enter the water, repeating the same swimming course before finishing at the starting line. Basically, the swim course is twice the same triangle.


 

City Run Races

Running 1500m, (born 2008 and before)

The race starts from the Iroon Square.  The Athletes run along Papadopoulou Avenue heading towards the ferry boat dock where they must make a U turn at the parking of the port (750m) and return to the finish line. The race starts and finishes at the same place.


Running 5000m, (born 2002 and before)

The race starts from the Iroon Square.  The Athletes run along Papadopoulou Avenue heading towards the eastern side of the island. After the 2.2 km, the athletes turn left running in and out of the beautiful cobbled streets of Poros. About 400m before the finish line, the athletes turn left to the coastal road. The race starts and finishes at the same place.


Triathlon Races

 Sprint Triathlon (Individual – Relay):  swim: 750m, bike: 20km, run: 5km, (born 2002 and before)
Cut Offs: Swim= 0:35h, Swim+Bike = 2:30h

  • Swim: The start of the race takes place at the dock, next to the parking area at the port, where the transition zone is set. Athletes swim clockwise passing the next two buoys before they finish at the starting line. The start and the end of the race are at the same line, while the course is triangular.
  • Bike: On leaving the transition zone, the athletes move left on Papadopoulou Avenue and then on Monastiriou Avenue. After two kilometers, the uphill course of the route starts and lasts for about 7km. Athletes should always follow the markings along the route and they must ride according to the Greek Driving Legislations. At the 8.5th km, the downhill course starts and ends at the 12th Great attention should be given by the athletes throughout the downhill course and especially to the sharp turn after the 11th km and also to the narrow bridge that follows. At the end of the downhill (12th km) course, the race continues right on Lambrakis coastal road, and straight up to the Russian Naval Station, where the only U turning back point is located. Afterwards, the athletes ride back on Lambraki road.  At the intersection, at the end of the road, they turn right and after about 400m, they turn right into the transition zone.
  • Run: On leaving the transition zone, athletes turn right on Papadopoulou Avenue. After 500m, they have to follow the path on the right, which is the pedestrian walkway by the boats (the left path leads to the finish line). They continue towards the eastern side of the island, running around the coastal road avenue. After the 3.4th km, the athletes turn left into the beautiful cobbled streets of Poros. About 600m before the finish line, the athletes turn left on Lambrakis coastal road and head for the finish line. Attention, the athletes must stay on the left side of the road which leads to the finish line.

The racing schedule may be modified in accordance with the particularities of the race. The representative of the Technical Committee and the Director of the Race are responsible for drawing up and formalizing the race program and for what is not provided in this notice
